This story is not about healthy one night encounters with quirky men. I wanted to like this book. Instead it is about dangerous, very drunken one night stands. I wanted to read a story about a strong, confident woman who is not afraid to be open about her healthy and active sex life. I was looking for something along the lines of Sex and the City. Even the "friends" she writes about are pretty nasty people. I'm sure the people in the book were written in a poor light in order to make the book funnier but, instead, it makes you thankful that this isn't your life.
The book is very easy to read and at times, a real page turner because you knew a twist was coming. I'm a happily married middle aged man and I found myself laughing at some of the craziness that Chelsea has gotten herself into.
Are you sick of politics. Are you tired of winter.
If you answered Yes to any of these questions, then My Horizontal Life is your type of book. Do you need something mindless to read.
Are in you in the mood to laugh. I loved the characters in the book.
During these tough economic times -- we need to laugh and Chelsea Handler provides perfect relief.
If you are expecting a timeless classic with morals, literary elements, substantiated plot, and tear jerking scenes of love, please read Faulkner and not a book about sex. It is a great book that I got excited about every time I sat down to read. Okay, so as I sit here and read through all of the negative feedback about how vapid and shallow Chelsea is, I must ask myself, "What did you expect when you sat down to read a collection of one night stands." Handler is not trying to be the next Hawking or Shakespeare, she is simply writing tales of hilariousness (yeah I know, probably not a word) and fun. Seriously people, relax, it's like watching the movie Legally Blonde and being disappointed because you thought it was going to be as good as Gone with the Wind. It's an instant mood booster and a great laugh. There were points at which I had to tell and recap a section to anyone standing near me. I loved it, it was an easy read, and it made me laugh. you can't really ask for more than that in a book about sex and one night stands.
